Responsibilities:

At ABB’s Vaasa unit, various electric motors and related components for industrial needs are designed and manufactured. The systems to be designed can be extensive—individual motors may weigh several tons and include large mechanical structures.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be part of the design team and be responsible for the design and development of machined components and structures. The role allows you to engage in hands-on design work and develop solutions as part of larger assemblies. The position emphasizes an independent working style and the ability to proactively drive tasks forward.

Your responsibilities:

• Design of cast steel mechanical components and assemblies
  

• Considering production and manufacturability in design
  

• Collaboration with internal stakeholders and international teams
  

• Development of existing products and solutions
  

We expect from you:

• Relevant technical education (e.g. Mechanical Engineering)
  

• Experience with Creo+Windchill or NX Team Center
  

• Previous experience in mechanical design (+2–3 years)
  

• Understanding of machined components and their design
  

• Ability to work independently and proactively take initiative
  

• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach
  

• Good command of the English language
  

Additionally, we consider it an advantage if you have:

• Experience with cast products or casting processes
  

• Understanding of manufacturing technologies and production environments

This is a fixed-term position for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. The employment contract will be signed with Barona Teollisuus Oy. The work is expected to start after the summer, in August. Your workplace will be at ABB’s facilities in Vaasa.
