Description

St1 is an energy transition company with the vision to be the leading producer and seller of CO₂-aware energy. St1 operates in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Our portfolio encompasses oil products, biogas, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), renewable diesel (HVO) and solar power. St1 has 1,150 retail stations across Finland, Sweden and Norway. Together, we’re more than 1,000 curious, committed and caring people here to change the game. Ready to challenge the ordinary with us?

About the Role

We are looking for an AI Platform Engineer who combines hands-on capability with an architectural mindset: someone who can build and operate AI systems today, while keeping one eye on where the market is heading and what that means for St1 tomorrow.

You run St1's AI platform portfolio: the tools, infrastructure, security controls, and cost management that make AI work reliably across the organization. You are hands-on with AI agents, gateways, pipelines, and platform tooling, and you think in systems: how the pieces fit, where the risks are, and how today's decisions play out over time.

You are a strong technical expert on AI platforms and tooling, someone who follows the fast-moving market closely and knows what's available, what's coming, and what actually works. You bring that knowledge wherever it's needed: helping teams choose the right tools, guiding adoption decisions, and shaping how St1 puts AI to work. Governance is one of the tables you sit at, where you influence with your expertise. You inform and advise across the organization.

How you’ll help drive the change

As an AI Platform Engineer, you’ll play a key role in…

AI Tools & Platform

• Own and manage the supported AI platform portfolio: LLM platforms (e.g. Claude, Copilot, Gemini), vibe-coding tools, agent development platforms, and AI add-ons (e.g. AI in Excel, PowerPoint).

• Drive the evaluation, procurement, and rollout of new AI tools, navigating IT/security reviews, DPIAs, and stakeholder alignment.

• Build, operate, and improve AI agent infrastructure: monitoring, FinOps, status tracking, error handling, and guardrails.

• Manage AI gateways and ensure appropriate routing, logging, and control of AI traffic.

• Prototype and validate new AI capabilities hands-on (e.g. with Claude Code) before recommending them for broader adoption.

AI Security & Governance

• Implement and operate AI-specific security controls with the CISO: shadow-AI discovery and prevention, DLP for AI traffic, LLM gateways, and prompt-firewall configuration.

• Enforce the approved AI tool policy and maintain visibility of shadow AI usage.

• Maintain the AI asset catalog: a current, accurate inventory of all AI systems in use.

• Participate actively in St1's AI governance group as the primary platform and technology expert, and be the go-to person for what AI tools are available, approved, and fit for purpose.

AI FinOps

• Own AI cost visibility across cloud and SaaS: track spending, identify waste, and optimize usage.

• Embed FinOps thinking into how new AI tools and platforms are evaluated and onboarded.

What you bring to the team

We’re looking for a colleague with the drive to challenge, collaborate and grow. To thrive in this role, you likely have:

• 3–5 years of hands-on experience building and operating software or AI systems.

• Practical AI expertise combined with strong architectural thinking.

• Experience with AI agents, RAG pipelines, LLM integrations, or AI platform tooling.

• Good understanding of the AI tooling landscape, including LLM platforms, agent frameworks, gateways, and coding assistants.

• Strong awareness of AI market trends and the ability to turn insights into recommendations.

• Familiarity with AI security concepts such as DLP, AI gateways, and shadow AI management.

• Interest in AI FinOps and optimizing AI-related cloud and SaaS costs.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain AI topics to both technical and business audiences.

• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript, with a hands-on approach to prototyping and experimentation.

• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, APIs, and modern technology infrastructure.

Who are we looking for

We are looking for your passion, skills and drive. We're looking for those who recognize the St1 Spirit in themselves: Curious, Commercial, Committed and Caring. This Spirit shows up in daily actions: creating a space where it is safe to be yourself and raise problems early, following through when delivery gets tough, thinking end-to-end rather than in silos, and learning faster than the environment changes. Let us know what you can and want to do.

Why Join St1?

• Shape the future of AI-driven software engineering at St1.

• Deliver solutions with visible business impact across multiple domains.

• Develop towards architecture, AI, data engineering, or technical leadership.

• Work with a high-performing Nordic technology team where your contribution matters.

• Enjoy genuine freedom, responsibility, and the opportunity to make a real difference.

• Based in Helsinki or Stockholm, with excellent benefits.

• Support St1’s mission to lead the transition to CO₂-aware energy.
