Job details
Description
Your primary focus is cloud infrastructure and DevOps, but your impact goes broader: you are the team's go-to for automation and smarter ways of working across all platforms. A core part of the mission is building cloud infrastructure services that developers can consume as self-service, reducing friction, accelerating delivery, and giving teams what they need without platform involvement at every step.
To do this well, you think like a developer: you understand delivery pipelines, CI/CD, software lifecycles, and what it actually takes to ship and run software. That mindset, combined with strong cloud and infrastructure knowledge, is what makes a great platform lead.
• Leading the platform engineering team: set technical direction, support engineers day to day, spar on hard problems, and actively grow the team's skills, including new ways of working.
• Being hands-on: designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure, automation pipelines, and platform tooling yourself.
• Applying infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) to standardize and govern environments across the cloud landscape.
• Owning the full lifecycle of platform services, from design and build to operations, improvement, and decommission.
• Driving a DevSecOps approach: security, reliability, and observability built in, not bolted on.
• Supporting developers building and deploying in cloud and hybrid environments. The platform exists to make their work easier.
• Managing and optimizing cloud infrastructure costs. FinOps is part of the job, not an afterthought.
• Finding where automation can reduce manual platform work and lead the team in adopting those approaches.
• Monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving cloud and deployment issues, and building the tooling that prevents them recurring.
What you bring to the team
We’re looking for a colleague with the drive to challenge, collaborate and grow. To thrive in this role, you likely have:
• Leading by example: you grow the people around you, spar on hard problems, and have the enthusiasm to take a team into new territory while learning alongside them.
• Strong developer background with hands-on infrastructure experience. This combination is the heart of the role.
• Solid software development background: you've built and shipped real software and understand the full delivery lifecycle.
• Hands-on cloud experience (GCP and/or Azure) and a solid grasp of cloud-native architecture and governance.
• Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, which you use as a default, not an option.
• Understanding of cloud governance: networking, IAM, security controls, and cost management (FinOps).
• Experience with CI/CD, automation, and DevSecOps practices.
• Genuine, demonstrated enthusiasm for AI. You don't need deep expertise, but we'd love to see it show up somewhere concrete: tools you've built, a personal portfolio of experiments, or things you've tried hands-on.
• Systematic, pragmatic problem-solving: comfortable making good-enough decisions under uncertainty.
